Marc Rivet has been an entrepreneur for over 30 years. Having started as an independent trader, he founded a proprietary trading firm in 2005, which he led until 2012. Today, he and business partner Gabriel Cefaloni lead Nymbus Capital, an investment management firm specializing in fixed income and alternative investments. He shared with Business Builder what he’s learned along the way – from the benefits of a great business partner to the importance of growth to engaging in M&A transactions as an independent.

We are proud to announce the arrival of Jessica Martins. She will join the investment team. Her background intertwines the fields of data science, computer science, machine learning, and mathematics. She holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics and was granted multiple awards and speaking invitations internationally for her research work. Most recently, she worked at Tower Research Capital in Montreal within their Quantitative Trading FX group. Jessica will be part of the group responsible for researching and developing quantitative investment models used at Nymbus Capital as well as improving our investment operations automation efforts.

Nymbus Canadian Quantitative Fixed Income fundcelebrates its 3 years
Nymbus began managing the Quantitative Canadian Fixed Income fund in January 2019 for the institutions behind the Quebec Emerging Managers Program ("QEMP"). The fund just celebrated its 3rd anniversary and we're taking the opportunity to provide an update today.
Highlights:
- Top percentile returns across Canadian bond managers every year since 2019.
- Outperformance of +2.16% per year on average versus FTSE Universe Canada Bond.
- Ability to adjust during periods of rising and falling rates, widening and narrowing credit spreads, a pandemic, and even the worst bond quarter in 40 years. The fund is already outperforming the index by more than 1.46% in 2022.

We are proud to announce the arrival of Richard Langevin. He will join the private wealth/business development team, and will provide both institutional clients and individual clients provide professional portfolio management and risk management service.
Richard has more than 23 years of experience in the investment industry. Prior to Nymbus Capital, he worked at the National Bank of Canada in Quebec, Vancouver and Montreal. For the last 12 years as a portfolio manager for Private Banking 1859 and institutional clients at National Bank Trust. Mr. Langevin has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from UQAM. He is a Certified Hedge Fund professional (CHP), Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and a certified financial planner (IQPF).

We are proud to announce the arrival of Benjamin van de Werve. He will join the compliance and operations team. He oversees Nymbus operational activities as well as ensuring that the firm complies with regulatory and legal requirements. Mr. van de Werve has over 10 years of regulatory and compliance experience with major financial institutions in Quebec, including Desjardins and BNP Paribas. A lawyer by training and a member of the Quebec Bar since 2006, he also completed his MBA in 2005.

Nymbus Capital Completes Acquisitionof the Assets of Perseus Capital
Nymbus Capital ("Nymbus") has completed the acquisition of the assets of Perseus Capital ("Perseus"), a private alternative investment management firm using a quantitative macroeconomic approach. This represents a second major strategic transaction for Nymbus in the fourth quarter of 2020, following the merger in November with Landry Investment Management. These transactions bring together three Montreal-based companies with the objective of building a new generation investment firm in Quebec. The entire client base, intellectual property and team of Perseus join Nymbus, further strengthening the firm's quantitative expertise. Supported by the addition of Mathieu Poulin-Brière to the new management team, synergies also include the addition of a systematic economic analysis platform that will migrate to the technologies developed by Nymbus.
This association with Perseus Capital completes a partnership dating back to 2015, when Perseus Capital became a minority shareholder of Nymbus. Mr. Jean Turmel, President of Perseus, is also the former president of National Bank Financial and the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, one of the largest pension funds in Ontario. Mr. Turmel remains a shareholder and will bring considerable expertise in his new role as Chairman of Nymbus. Mr. Jean-Luc Landry will, in his role of vice-president, will be supporting M. Turmel in his function on the Board.

Nymbus Capital Completes Mergewith Landry Investment Management
Nymbus Capital ("Nymbus") completed a merger with Landry Investment Management ("Landry") - joining two distinct emerging Montreal-based investment firms. The management team will be led by Marc Rivet and Gabriel Cefaloni as co-CEO, with Mr. Cefaloni also assuming the role of Chief Investment Officer. Mr. Jean-Luc Landry and Mr. Jean Turmel are part of the new shareholder group and will sit on the Board of Directors of the merged company. The new company has 14 employees, all located at 1430-1800 McGill College in downtown Montreal.
The companies combine their quantitative and technological DNA to aggregate over $400 million in assets under management. The combination brings a truly global multi-strategy offering with global equity, global fixed income, alternative investments and real estate investment trusts ("REITs") strategies. The merger also doubles the size of the investment team and strengthens it with complementary expertise. Finally, the use of modern technologies that Nymbus has developed makes it possible to significantly deepen and extend internal analyses. All of this allows the firm to broaden and improve its offer to clients and to advance its commitment to the achievement of their financial goals.
